Amends
Amends began as a painting of a woman sitting quietly with a cup of coffee. Somewhere along the way, I realized she wasn't waiting to speak.
She was listening.
This painting imagines a long-overdue amends from someone she loves deeply. She isn't angry. She isn't keeping score. She isn't waiting for her turn to talk.
She is simply making space for another person to say what needs to be said.
As someone who spent nearly two decades working in recovery, I've witnessed the power of amends from many different perspectives. We often focus on the courage it takes to make an amends, but receiving one requires something too: patience, grace, and the willingness to listen.
