Quiet Balance – Original Fiber Wall Sculpture (36 x 36)
Quiet Balance is a one-of-a-kind fiber wall sculpture built around physical balance and structural restraint. Made with cotton cord, leather, found wood, and wooden beads, this 36 x 36 inch piece explores asymmetry, counterweight, and quiet tension.
I built Quiet Balance to be asymmetrical but physically level — and that turned out to be harder than it sounds.
As I trimmed the bottom edges, small adjustments repeatedly shifted the center of gravity. The piece would only hang correctly if it found its counterweight. The row of wooden beads on the left isn’t decorative — it’s structural. Without that weight, the work doesn’t resolve.
The branch was collected from my property in Sanger, Texas, and suspended with leather intentionally matched in tone so the materials read as one continuous system. The floral knotting patterns introduce softness, but I stopped short of overworking the form. I wanted restraint. I wanted breath.
This piece reflects balance as something maintained through adjustment — not something fixed or perfect.
Quiet Balance is currently submitted for exhibition consideration (2026). If accepted, delivery will take place after the exhibition closes. Buyers will be notified immediately upon acceptance status.
